Intro

I love investing across the capital stack and have holdings in bonds, preferreds and large / mid / small cap equities. My only checklist item is the ability to get sleep-at-night 7%+ returns over time across my portfolio. I’m opening to owning anything at the right price and right size. I think writing is the best way to check your thought process and use this newsletter to make sure my investment decisions are sound and well-researched.

My other passion (and day job) is software and you’ll occasionally notice some names lean into that passion, but I don’t pretend to have any special advantage there. On the software side, I like “building block” businesses where pricing is as close to 100% correlated with the value the user gets as possible.

I previously worked in equipment leasing and like leasing businesses with reasonable leverage a lot.

Free subscriptions

When I start coverage on a new company or post a major thesis changing / thesis breaking update on a holding, I’ll make the post free about 50% of the time. The other 50% is reserved for posts that were more time-intensive on research. I pay for other Substacks and am a believer in supporting good content so we can have more of it. If you feel like you’re getting value out of this newsletter, consider upgrading because I can promise you’ll get more value on paid.

Paid subscriptions

Time-intensive posts and “past the point of basic thesis” goes into the paid tier. Analysis on earnings releases, 8-Ks, Form 4s, proxies, industry conferences, Investor Days and the like are paid posts. I recommend this tier if you enjoy staying updated on companies I post in the free tier.
